Surround Vision is Interesting

Posted by JoeDaddy | Adventures, Mojo | Tuesday 18 November 2008 8:24 pm

So in the past month or so I have had this interesting thing happening with my eyes. I have a lazy left eye that has always been “turned off” and as a result has very poor vision since it never was used and did not develop. Last month for some reason, my brain decided to start processing imagery from this lazy eye. The result is I see in front of me as I always have and now I also see to the far left as well…it is a whole new experience. The sucky part is the images on the far left are a bit blurry as my eyes are totally different. My glasses do correct my left eye to the best possible, but it is still pretty sucky vision.

So today I went to see a specialist in this lazy eye thing and he did a lot of “hmmms” and “uh huhs” and then asked me to come back Monday afternoon to see a colleage of his. Did not seem to be alarmsing as anything life threatening, was just interested. I hope I don’t become a science experiment and hopefully will get some answer after the second visit!

I do find the surround vision intersting, but would prefer to be back to normal. Perhaps I will need to wear a pirate patch, agggrrrrhhh!

Ass Gasket Auto Protection

Posted by JoeDaddy | Mojo, Trips | Sunday 9 November 2008 4:37 pm

Ha, I been meaning to post this for a long time now. When I went on my trip to Chicago and Ohio, I was amazed by the toilets at the Chicago O’Hare airport. They have this system that after a flush, you wave your hand in front of this sensor and it put a new toilet seat protector on. Fascinating. It also counts down how many protector are left in the system. I wonder if it pages the janitorial staff when almost out? Most of them had about 40 or so left…wonder if they start at 100? Deep questions deserving some deep understanding. Anyways, here is the video I took below (I know, werid…but like I said, I was totally engaged in this whole process).

Look, Auto Protection!

I have been JibJab’d

I have been JibJab’d by the nice folks in Ohio. I believe Ken is responsible for this.

RIP: Mojo, 2006 - 2008

Tonight was a sad night. I had to euthanize Mojo. She was sick a little earlier in the week and tonight she started to hemorrhage. I decided not to let the suffering continue and did what was right. She was a fun hamster who always kept to herself and did not like to be handled too much…reminds me of some people I know. She will be missed in the house for sure!

1st Day I Got Mojo

“So Urgent, So Oh Oh Urgent”

Posted by JoeDaddy | Adventures, Mojo | Thursday 23 October 2008 11:51 pm

Tonight, my Dad took me out to see Foreigner, a truely classic rock band at the Chumash Casino. If you tune into KTYD, you are bound to hear at least two of theirs songs at any moment in town. Such hits as Urgent, Hot Blooded, Jukebox Hero….yeah you know the good shit. Big hair was flying around and so was the crowd. We sat in the “rowdy” section at the back and had the cougar crew all around. At times I felt as if I was in a SNL sketch…I would hear quotes from the people around me, such as: “Oh, he so looked at me”, “Wow, his playing is dreamy”, “Mmm, mmmm, that hair is flowing nicely tonight”. Overall it was a fun concert and it is pretty amazing how many Foreigner songs you actuall hear every day!

I took a photo below, but turned out pretty crappy as I just had my cell phone camera.

Power Pole Replacement

Posted by JoeDaddy | Mojo | Saturday 18 October 2008 7:54 pm

Edison decided to replace a power pole today in the back of my apartment complex.  Power was out for about 8 hours and it was not a small task by any means.  Work required to remove the old power pole and transformer and install new gear.  Project required mutiple large trucks that I am still amazed they got behind the garages.  One truck worked on getting back there for over 20 minutes as it went back and forth over and over again (Austin Powers ring a bell?).  On the street over was a huge crane and rigging gear to install the new pole.

Dad helped by reviewing progress with his 10 x 50 binoculars, I am pretty sure the Edison crew has never been watched like that before, haha.

Finally, Retirement Gains in the Red

Posted by JoeDaddy | Mojo | Wednesday 8 October 2008 7:22 am

I was wondering when my retirement account would show a red! They have this total that compares three months ago to today. For the longest time it has been positive which is totally incorrect as I am also putting money into it as well and the positive number is much lower than the amount I have been putting in. This morning, it is actually in the red, so even after my contributions over the last three months, it still went to the negative side…thankfully I am young and the market has time to rebound (and fail a few more times I am sure).

Yeah, Life Does Not Suck

Posted by JoeDaddy | Mojo | Sunday 5 October 2008 9:11 pm

Who would ever imagine a lad from San Bernardino would ever live in such a beautiful place as Santa Barbara! It has been hitting me more and more in the last few months as to how special this place really is. The quality of life is amazing…the only trick is figuring out how to own property here, which I think is next to impossible. The photo below is the view I get from my nightly walk at Shoreline Park. Not many can say they see that every night. Definitely beats my future of working in a radiator shop in the middle of the desert!

Gone to the Dark Side

Posted by JoeDaddy | Mojo, Work | Wednesday 24 September 2008 10:06 pm

Well now I have done it…something I said I would never do and have mocked many for it. I have joined the revolution of having an Apple product. An iPhone. After all my hate of Apple and protection of Microsoft SmartPhone devices, I have made the change. Wonder what caused this to happen? Perhaps it was meant to be. The biggest selling point for me was the ability to have direct push info from Exchange, wihtout that it would have not even been an option. Perhaps the latest “I am a PC” ad really made me feel sick and felt it was time. Perhaps I secretively always wanted to use one but was afraid to let go of my Microsoft base.

I do know that in my four hours of constant use of so of the iPhone 3G, I am quite impressed. Has not crashed once and everything is so simple. Requires no thought process at all. A bit too simple, there must be a catch at some point. How can this device do everything? Everything from handle my mail, contacts, calendar to telling me how to get somewhere or what phone number to dial. Or even tells me where I am with the GPS find me.

So good bye to Mr. T-Mobile Dash..who served me well for over two years. And hello Mr. iPhone, who provides great business assets and joy at the same time.

Yes, I have gone to the dark side, but maybe it is much lighter than I ever imagined.

Thanks Everyone

Just wanted to thank everyone for their support in the last week. It really showed what a great group of friends and family I have. I really was not sure what to expect from work when I returned half way Friday and then fully on Monday…but it was nothing but support and making sure I was doing OK. I am very lucky and fortunate to have all of your in my life.
